Menstruation during the Reproductive Years

The reproductive years are defined with the first period and end with the last during menopause. Menstruation, spotting, discharge, and other types of vaginal bleeding are common during and outside periods and are experienced by almost all women.

Irregular bleeding is common and can arise for a number of reasons. It can be caused by:

• A cervical polyp, a small growth within or near the surface of the cervix
• Ovulation
• Extreme emotional stress
• Excessive exercise

Menstruation and exercise

With menstrual periods come cramps and other types of discomfort. These irregularities are caused by changing levels of the hormones, estrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle.

High stress levels, undereating, a new job, and many other circumstances can affect your body negatively. However, exercise can help to restore your body’s balance.

Exercise can also help ease vaginal bleeding and cramps by relieving pain and speeding up your metabolism.

During menstruation, exercise can provide a great way to overcome discomfort and some of the pains related to menstrual cycles.

Can I do too Much exercise?

Woman running: too much exercise can worsen menopause symptomsThe answer is yes. Every one of us needs to do exercise to maintain a healthy life. Exercise can make us feel better and improve the way that our body works, but there is a limit. Doing too much exercise, especially when not warming up beforehand, can be dangerous and lower the body´s ability to fight off sickness and stress. Running a marathon is not recommended if you haven´t been training or haven´t been running for a very long time.

Whilst on your period, your body is already placed under an additional amount of stress. Doing daily exercise can help to lower stress levels, though exercising excessively will reverse this, and put an extra toll upon your body, adding to stress levels.

Treatment for Vaginal Dryness

Run, jump, skip, walk, and do whatever you want to get active: exercise is good for you. Exercise can help with menstrual pain and help prepare the body for menstruation, but be careful not to overexert yourself. Develop your exercise routine slowly, and find out what you are comfortable with.

Woman with fruit: organic food gives the body the nutrients it needsA proper diet is also important to ensure your body receives the nutrients it needs to function as it should. Organic food, home cooked meals and fruits and vegetables are great ways to keep your body healthy. Certain vitamins and alternative medicines are also known to help people fill nutritional gaps in their diet.

If you have severe pain during your menstrual cycle, talk to your medical practitioner. They can help you to find what works best for you.
