How To Deal With Night Sweats During Overnight Travel

The idea behind overnight travel is for you to get some shut eye during your journey. But for menopausal women experiencing night sweats, getting rest and relaxation may be easier said than done. When you´re traveling by bus, plane or train, you have little control over air conditioning and open windows, and your seat may feel uncomfortable and cramped. What can you do if the midnight sweating decides to strike? Read on to find out.

Overnight Travel: Dealing with Non-Stop Night Sweats

While night sweats are caused by hormone imbalances, they can be triggered by a myriad of environmental factors, like stuffy environments, hot foods and dehydration. Follow these four tips for some fast and easy relief from night sweats during overnight travel:

Ask for an Aisle Seat

We all know that the window seat provides the best view on a plane, train or bus. But choosing a window seat means you´ll have to crawl over at least one other passenger en route to the bathroom. These days, most travel companies allow you to choose your own seat when you book your ticket. Make sure to sit in a place with a quick exit. You´ll be glad to stretch your legs and splash some water on your face when night sweats strike.

Dress In Layers

Unless you´re traveling in the comfort of your own car, cracking a window for some fresh air isn´t always an option when you´re experiencing night sweats. It´s a good idea to dress for your overnight travel in comfortable, breathable layers. This way, you won´t have to ¨sweat it¨ when night sweats attack: you can peel off the top layer of clothing for some fast and easy relief.

Pass on the Coffee and Tea

It´s best to avoid tea and coffee drinks during overnight travel. Night sweats can be triggered by warm beverages and spicy foods. Instead of coffee or tea, opt for something cool, refreshing and decaffeinated, like water or juice. Keep a bottle of water with you for relief in-between meal services.

Pack an Emergency Relief Kit

Make sure whichever bag you have with you contains your emergency relief essentials: deodorant, moist cloths and bottled water. You can steal away to the bathroom to regain your composure after a night sweats attack. Have your headphones ready to help you fall back asleep when you return to your seat.
