Bundling Up When You’re Feeling Hot: Tips for Winter Night Sweats

night sweats Sudden bursts of heat, profuse sweating followed by fever and intense chills. No, it´s not the opening credits to a scary movie, but a common phenomenon faced by most women during menopause: night sweats. They can be mild or severe, frequent or sporadic visitors.

Some women may also experience headaches, weakness, depression, erratic heartbeats or loss of sleep. Read on to find out how to stay cool during winter when a night sweat attacks

Tips to Help Beat Night Sweats During Cool Winter Nights

night sweats Night sweats can result from a number of different causes during menopause including having too many blankets on the bed! To avoid the annoying sweaty sheets and sleepless nights caused by night sweats it is helpful to follow these few simple tips:

Control the Thermostat- Maintain your bedroom temperature at a lower temperature than the rest of the house, even in winter, and you´ll never look back!

• Keep Your Cool – Have a fan handy to run during the night. The air blown by the fan will help dry the sweat and also helps to keep your bed sheets dry.

Just Breathe – Keeping yourself happy and stress free during the day can be the difference between a good night´s sleep or a deadly night flash. Try stress relieving techniques such as deep breathing exercises, meditation or yoga and find out what works for you.

Peel Away – Wear light layers and natural fibers such as cotton. Wearing layers will allow you to easily peel off clothes which you can also put back on if you get cold. Use cotton bedding and nightclothes, which absorb moisture more efficiently.

Additional Tips

Don´t Smoke – Smoking increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis – now more than ever is a good time to quit.

Exercise Regularly – This will help keep stress at bay. Your physical state will reach new heights and improve your emotional well-being.

Limit Spice- Keep spicy foods to a minimum before bed. They can cause insomnia, leading to further sleep irregularities.

Menopause is a natural progression but you don´t have to live through the discomfort of night sweats. Take control of them and realize night sweats are only a temporary phase in your life. Click here to find out more information about treating night sweats during menopause.
