How to find the best home remedy for irregular periods

First of all, you may ask, how do I know if my period is irregular?
Irregular periods is a term that is used to categorize any menses that is too long in duration, too heavy, absent for several months at a time, breakthrough bleeding or spotting, or abnormally painful. Most times, periods are only considered irregular when they present abnormalities for a year or more.

What can I do about my irregular periods?

Below are some quick fixes that are totally natural. If you can’t stand the unpredictability of your irregular periods, read on to find out what you can do.

Watch what you eat and drink

This is perhaps the simplest way to get your body back on track. Certain foods we eat, such as those that contain caffeine, are deep fried, or are too sugary can disrupt your hormonal imbalance. But just as important as what you eat is how you’re eating it. It’s imperative to eat consistently throughout the day. Avoid skipping meals, and always carry healthy snacks that are easy to eat on the go.

Consider taking natural herbs

There are some herbs, like Maca, that can stabilize your energy and hormone production levels. These herbs work by encouraging your body to produce its own natural hormones more regularly, rather than introducing foreign substances like birth control does. Be cautious when choosing which herbs to take, however, because some of them can also have some unpleasant side effects.

Use heat

If you suffer from unbearable menstrual cramps or back pain, a hot water bottle can relax your muscles and help you rest. If you don’t have a hot water bottle, the same effect can be achieved with a warm towel. No matter which method you use, be cautious so that you don’t burn yourself.

Exercise

Initially, menstrual cramps are caused by prostaglands, or fatty acids, in the uterus. Once the muscle contractions begin, blood flow to this region is decreased, resulting in more contractions (i.e. stronger cramps). The best way to end this cycle is to exercise to increase blood flow to the pelvic region. Don’t just exercise during your time of the month, though; during your period, you can reap even better benefits from regular exercise.

Do yoga

Yoga is known for reducing stress and anxiety, two mental functions that can manifest themselves physically and make cramps worse. Focus on poses that require you to bend at the midsection because these positions will relieve cramping.

Avoid the cold

If you manage to stay warm, you’ll be less likely to have intense cramps during their periods. Stay bundled up in winter and make sure you’re always near a heat source. Take relaxing hot baths for an even better remedy.

More information about irregular periods

Irregular periods are sometimes signs of another underlying condition, so you should always seek the advice of a medical professional. If you’ve had irregular periods for a year or more, it’s important to make an appointment with your gynecologist and come with notes in hand about your menstrual irregularity.
