Menopausal symptoms as a result of hot flashes

Hot flashes are, statistically, the most common problem experienced by menopausal women, but what is sometimes overlooked is the effect they play on the body by causing other signs. It is believed that as many as 85% of menopausal women suffer from this experience. Duration, severity, and frequency vary, but if you're having a menopausal hot flashes, then what else do you need to be wary of?

Like all menopausal symptoms, it is brought on by hormonal fluctuations and leads to an intense heat, irregular heartbeat, chills, sweating, flushes, and sleep disturbances. Keeping your hormones in balance is important, and hot flashes can be really distressing.

A list of the (potential) domino effect caused by hot flashes

Night sweats

The nocturnal cousin of hot flashes. This problem shares many triggers with hot flashes and the onset of hot flashes can cause insomnia and irritability that can mean that night sweats are more likely to be a problem.

Loss of libido

Sex drive is widely believed to lessen through menopause as estrogen decreases. Hot flashes can lead to a loss of libido through lowering self-esteem and straining the relationship with your partner, which can lead to a lack of communication and desire.

Irritability

Knowing that you are suffering from hot flashes can make you tense and stressed. These are two things that go a long way to causing irritations. The disturbances they cause can also drain energy and make things more frustrating.

Mood swings

Similar in a lot of ways, and a horrible symptom of menopause, are mood swings. These can be caused by hot flashes. The hormonal imbalance can be distressing times for a woman, and the flushes that are brought on can greatly affect the mood.

Fatigue

An all too common sign of menopause is fatigue. Triggered by the sleep disturbances and use of energy that hot flashes bring, it can sometimes point to its peers as causation.

Difficulty concentrating

When suffering from hot flashes you are more likely to have trouble concentrating. It can take over your mind and lead to an inability to focus or concentrate on your daily life.

Headaches

A lack of sleep is a key factor in headaches, and that is something that you get from hot flashes. It can also be draining on a menopausal woman to get on top of these problems.
