Tips for Managing Hair Loss during Menopause

Because menopause is a time when hormonal changes are occurring in the body, it is not uncommon for menopausal women to experience several symptoms. Hair loss, though typically associated with middle-aged men, has been reported in up to 13 per cent of women before menopause, and as much as 75 per cent over the age of 65. However, all hope is not lost for women with thinning hair as many causes of female hair loss are temporary. Below are some tips for managing hair loss.

Examine all environmental factors, and don't forget yesterday, too!

Other factors could be at play when dealing with hair loss. Remember: hair loss didn't occur overnight, though sometimes it may seem it. Medicine or stressful situations from up to three months prior could be stimulating your symptoms today. Childbirth, high fever and surgery are all examples of possible causes of hormonal changes in the body.

Try taking control of your scalp by making healthy diet choices.

Almonds, avocados and olive oil are good sources of Vitamin E and essential to keep blood pumping to the scalp. Alfalfa sprouts are rich in vitamins A, B2, B5, C and K and possess traces of Zinc, all of which aid in the upkeep of a healthy head of hair. Avoid white sugar and of course caffeine and alcohol.

Exercising is always worth a try.

Not only does exercise alleviate stress, which helps promote over-all health, but light stretching and yoga can help to re-grow hair.

Massaging the scalp is not only enjoyable.

Try massaging your scalp with vinegar, aloe vera or coconut milk and other hair growth-promoting substance. The massage will help keep the scalp stimulated.
